Atmosphere: Stars and Stripes Brewing company has a very inviting, laid back tap room. There are big tables for larger groups, smaller picnic tables for smaller groups, and seating on the patio outside. You can also head up to the bar and grab a stool for those times that you just want to grab a beer by yourself.
In the corner of the taproom is a popcorn machine. I am not the type of guy that turns down free popcorn so I liked this touch. Also, when we visited the taproom, there was also a food truck outside if you were looking for something to fill you up a bit more than popcorn will.
Service: The service at Stars and Stripes was really great. The bartender was attentive and provided beer recommendations to a number of different customers. There were not many people working when we went but they were able to attend to all of the customers without any noticeable issues.
Variety/Styles of Beer: Stars and Stripes had a broad range of beer offerings that is sure to satisfy the preferences of your whole group. When I went, I had both their pilsner, Private Pilsner, and their stout, Stout and Give Me 20. My wife had their IPA, Ooh-Rah! IPA, and my brother had their Blueberry Wheat. Everyone enjoyed the beer that they had and the atmosphere only made the experience better.
Overall Thoughts/Recommendations: Maine Beer Company and Mast Landing get a lot of the attention when it comes to craft beer in Freeport. And, both of those breweries are deserving of that attention. But, Stars and Stripes is just deserving of your attention. They have an admirable mission, their beer is solid and their atmosphere is inviting. You could stand to do a lot worse than stopping in and grabbing yourself a pint at Stars and Stripes.
